Kyokushin means the ultimate truth, and the training lives up to the name. It asks students to be honest about their effort, to push a little past what is comfortable and to keep a positive attitude while they do it. Young people who take up karate often discover capabilities they did not know they had.
Juniors are taught in a class that suits their age, with plenty of encouragement and clear expectations. They learn to concentrate, to follow instructions and to respect those around them. Older students train at a more demanding level, building fitness, technique and mental toughness.
Because everyone follows the same traditions, it is easy to see how a beginner today becomes a senior student in a few years. That sense of a path, with real milestones along the way, is one of the most motivating parts of the art.
